Treat Yourself to a 3-Day Art Retreat

Get away to the hill country for a few days of fun and inspiration! I'll be teaching a 3-day screenprinting workshop at the Hill Country Arts Foundation in Ingram, Tx at the end of the month. The focus will be on using techniques that are not permanent, so the silkscreen can be used over and over for many different designs. All of the techniques covered are easy to replicate at home, without the need for special equipment. The arts center is located near Kerrville, which offers a variety of activities to keep you occupied after class each day. You might want to go for a walk in the nature preserve, visit Creations - the fabulous fabric store in town, or just relax in your room at one of the lovely inns in town. See my website for more information.

One People Many Paths

It's time again for The Sacred Art of Altars. This annual exhibition is sponsored by the Celebration Circle and features 55 local artists. Each of us starts with an unfinished wooden altar and we create our unique vision. The exhibit is on display daily from 11 am to 10 pm in the lobby at the Bijou Theatre in the Wonderland Mall. The auction and closing reception is on Thursday, September 30 at 6 pm.

Join Me at the Quilt Festival

I'll be teaching four classes at the International Quilt Festival in Houston this fall. November 4: Creating Texture on Cloth:Resist Techniques ( 2-5 pm) and African Inspired Quilts (6-9 pm); November 5: Design Inspiration (9-12) and Finish It (2-5 pm). I'll also be demonstrating techniques for mounting quilts on canvas during the Mixed Media Miscellany on Thursday and brayer printing techniques during the Friday Sampler.

Vibrant Color is Finally Here!

I'm really excited about the new DVD that Jane Dunnewold and I filmed in June. We had a few production delays, but the DVDs have finally arrived. The 90 minute DVD, Vibrant Color, features techniques that Jane and I have been working to perfect for the past two years. We cover three techniques for combining dyes and soy wax. If you pre-ordered the DVD, you should receive it very soon. Once you watch it, I'd love to hear what you think.
